POLICY:

NOCAC Head Start will use the CLASS: Pre-K Instrument to monitor all classrooms.  A minimum of two observations are conducted each program year.

 

PROCEDURES:

  1. Fall Observation
    1. The Fall observation will consist of 4, twenty minute cycles for classroom.
    2. The Center Manager will arrange to provide coverage for a meeting with the teacher and teacher assistant after the observation.
    3. A goal will be created after the observation with the teacher or teacher assistant individually for their professional development plan.
    4. The CLASS Dimension Guide will be used as a resource to create the action plan for the goal.
  2. Spring Observation
    1. The Spring observation will consist of 4, twenty minute cycles for each classroom.
    2. The scores will be used as followup on the goals that were set during the Fall observation.
    3. The Center Manager will arrange to provide coverage for a meeting with the teacher and teacher assistant after the observation.
    4. The teacher or teacher assistant will meet with the observer after the observation to discuss progress and to adjust the goal if necessary.
    5. The CLASS Dimension Guide will be used as a resource to create the action plan for the goal.
    6. Teaching teams may be videotaped on goals or areas needing improvement. After each round of the CLASS Observation, teaching teams will be notified in advance if they will be videotaped. Followup will occur after videotaping occurs for reflection.
