POLICY:
NOCAC Head Start will conduct an evidence-based screening to identify concerns regarding a child’s behavioral, motor, language, social, cognitive and emotional skills within 45 calendar days of the child’s entry into the program.
PROCEDURES:
NOCAC Head Start Teachers/Appropriate Staff will:
- Ages & Stages Questionnaire Third Edition is the tool used to screen developmental, motor, language, social and cognitive skills. (Refer to ASQ3 Procedure). It will be completed by Head Start Teachers or other appropriate staff. Results will be entered into the ASQ Online tracking system by the teacher, and then into Child Plus by the Disability Services Coordinator (DSC). Results will also be shared with the child’s parent/guardian by the teacher.
- The Devereux Early Childhood Assessment is the tool used to screen emotional and behavioral Development and skills. (Refer to DECA Procedure). It will be completed by the Head Start Teachers, and again by the child’s parent/guardian. These results will be entered into the eDECA online tracking system by the teacher, and then into Child Plus by the DSC. Results will also be shared with the child’s parent/guardian by the teacher.
- If Scored results cause concern, the teacher will discuss a possible referral with the CCM (Refer to the Referral Procedure).
