Parent Involvement in Nutrition

POLICY:

NOCAC Child Development encourages parents to participate in nutrition educational activities.

PROCEDURES:

  1. NOCAC Child Development encourages parents to participate in nutrition activities such as:
    1. Helping prepare meals in the classroom
    2. Serve and assist in the kitchen as needed
    3. Co-plan menus (within established guidelines)
    4. Contribute recipes of their child’s favorite food and/or cultural recipes
    5. Acting as a chaperone for nutrition-related field trips
    6. Working with groups of children on cooking projects
    7. Making materials for nutrition learning activities
    8. Collecting appropriate food packages and other props to be used in role-playing activities
    9. Conferring with NOCAC Staff about feeding problems
    10. Placing recipes on display or helping develop nutrition-related bulletin boards
    11. Writing or contributing recipes or nutritional-related concerns to be published in the NOCAC Head Start Newsletter
  2. NOCAC Staff will encourage parent participation by means of verbal and/or written communication.
  3. Parent education activities include opportunities to assist individual families with food preparation and nutritional activities.
  4. Parents serve as representatives on the Health Services Advisory Board.
