Toothbrush Sanitation

POLICY:

NOCAC Child Development will maintain proper toothbrush care and sanitation.

PROCEDURES:

TOOTHBRUSH CARE

  1. Classroom and Home-Based staff needs to ensure toothbrushes are properly rinsed before children put them away.

  2. Children may place their toothbrush in the storage container.

  3. Staff needs to ensure toothbrushes are kept separate at all times.

  4. Store with bristles to air dry in such a way that the toothbrushes cannot contact or drip on each other and the bristles are not in contact with any surface.

  5. Notify Health/Safety Assistant by email if additional supplies are needed.

SANITATION

  1. Discard and replace toothbrushes every 3 months or if one of the following occur:

    1. Toothbrush looks frayed or worn

    2. Contaminated through contact with another brush

    3. After illness

    4. Touches an unsanitary surface

    5. Used by another child

  2. Toothbrush storage container must be cleaned/sanitized weekly.

    1. Most storage containers can be placed in the dishwasher for additional cleaning.
