​Head Start Home Visitor – Defiance County


The Home Visitor provides in-home instruction as well as group socialization experiences for pregnant women, Birth – age 5 children and parent(s)/guardians to enhance the parent’s ability to fill the role of primary educator of their child.

Beginning pay:  $550.62/wk (HS Diploma or CDA); $574.18/wk (Associates Degree); $620.16/wk (Bachelors Degree). These are 38 hour per week position’s.

Schedule:  Monday – Friday, hours can fall between 8-4:30 with opportunity to flex time based on the needs of the families enrolled in the program.  These positions work 50 weeks a year.  There is a two week lay-off at the end of July.

Job Duties include:

  • Conduct weekly home visits with Birth – age 5 children and their parent(s)/guardians and model skills to encourage parent(s)/guardian to be active as their child’s primary educator.
  • Assist families in creating and implementing weekly lesson plans following a Birth to 5 home visiting curriculum.
  • Complete all sensory and developmental screenings.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and willing to obtain the Home Visitors CDA within an 18 month period. NOCAC will provide this training. OR
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree that includes college coursework related to families and children, preferred.  Normally found in Education, Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or ECE degrees.
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver’s License and maintain the state minimum amount of automobile liability insurance and be insurable through NOCAC’s insurance carrier. Must be over the age of 21.
  • Must be sensitive to the needs of low-income individuals and able to work with individuals of all cultural backgrounds and ages.
  • Must maintain professional boundaries, ethics and confidentiality of program, client and staff information at all times.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
